What Are Tree-Free Facial Tissues and Why Should You Make the Switch

Tree Free Facial Tissue Paper

Did you know that around 27,000 trees are cut every day to supply our global tissue consumption? And, with over a million living species residing on a single average tree, the impact you are making is darker than you could have ever anticipated. And, when it comes to facial tissues, most Americans use over 8 boxes of facial tissues in just a month.

While these facts can be concerning, you can still manage to create a difference. By making the switch to tree-free facial tissues, you can wipe the dirt (or sweat) away from your face without actually sending the planet down the drain.

And, if you are wondering what exactly tree-free facial tissue paper is made of or how they are better, this page is just for you. Read on to explore what these tissues contain and how they are a better choice.

Tree-Free Facial Tissues: What's The Hype?

As the name implies, these facial tissues are made with no paper. However, here's an easier breakdown for you.

In our case, our range of facial tissue paper is made straight from plants. We rely on upcycled sugarcane bagasse to make daily essentials like these natural facial tissues. Bagasse is a plant waste that is usually left behind once juice is extracted from sugarcane stalks. This waste ends up in landfills, where it is burnt to get rid of the waste. However, these bagasse facial tissues are all in to embrace the circular economy.

So, unlike regular tissue paper, these bagasse facial tissues are made with plant pulp, not tree pulp.

How Are They Made?

Similar to the processing of wood pulp, tree-free facial tissues are made by converting bagasse into pulp, and then forming the pulp into sheets. Here's a detailed making process for you:

Sourcing

The process starts with pulping bagasse. Bagasse is a highly abundant resource and a sustainable alternative to traditional paper. The major binding element in bagasse is cellulose.

Pulping

Once this sweet-smelling waste is procured, it is washed to get rid of any impurities. This process also helps separate the fibers from each other by disrupting the natural cellulose binder. Once the fibers are separated, they are sent to be made in tissues. We, at EcoSoul, follow a three-step pulping process, where each strand of bagasse is churned into pulp thrice, for improved consistency.

Forming

The pulp is then filled into molds, under the paper-making machine and pressed under high heat and pressure, to get the desired shape. These facial tissues are then dried and trimmed to perfection.

Benefits of Tree-Free Facial Tissues

Beyond the sustainability claims, there's more to our facial tissue box. Here are some of the noteworthy benefits-
