Corn Starch over Plastics: Why Switch?

This petroleum is extracted from the ground, leading to massive use of energy and labor. And when you are done with using a plastic straw, they usually end up in our trash cans. Disposed plastic straws either end up in our oceans or are dumped into landfills. In landfills, this trash is either burnt or gets mixed up with the soil, thus contaminating the soil quality. And, if these straws are dumped into the ocean, they pollute the water or are ingested by marine animals like turtles. In most cases, these animals end up getting choked or fully ingested. The point is, whether they end up in our oceans or the landfills, they actually end up in our food chain.

Wondering how is that possible? To be specific, everything in our ecosystem biodegrades at some point. The only difference is that while our compostable straws take only a few weeks to break down and become compost, plastic straws take over 200 years. Abd, when they do decompose, these straws still manage to leave a long trail of microplastics behind. The point is plastic never really goes away. And, once these tiny pieces of plastics are ingested by animals or mixed with soil, where crops may go, we eventually end up ingesting it.

What is PLA?

PLA, or polylactic acid, is a plant starch that is usually obtained from plants like corn or sugarcane. All compostable straws at EcoSoul are made from corn starch. Also known as bio-plastic, these straws are purely plant-based and absolutely free from plastics. Moreover, because they rely only on the fastest replenishing resources found on the planet, their production doesn't consume a lot of energy either.
